EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM AWARDS
In 2016, the Gambia Press Union launched annual journalism awards. Part of World Press Freedom Day commemoration, the journalism awards is meant to motivate journalists in The Gambia to strive for excellence in their work. This will in turn empower the public as they will be provided with quality journalism that enables them to make well thought out choices. The awards are open to all practicing Gambian journalists.
Competition for the 2017 edition will be open in January.
Rules and Eligibility
Who’s eligible: The competition is open to all journalists working in the Gambia. Multiple bylines are not acceptable.
What’s eligible: Work must be published/broadcast in English between May 1, 2014 and April 15, 2016. Entries are restricted to Gambian-owned publications. Opinion articles, advertorials, work produced under contract for commercial promotion and newsletter issues/articles are not eligible.
The rules: You may submit as many entries as desired. However, a single work cannot be submitted in more than two categories.
Print Entries: Applicants should submit scanned entries either via email – email@example.com or in sealed envelope to be addressed to Secretary General, Gambia Press Union. All entries should show the name and date of publication, headline and byline(s) as possible. Entries must be accompanied with a brief bio of the entrant.
Online/Internet entries: The applicant should submit entries email – firstname.lastname@example.org in either PDF format or provide links to the news website the material was published. All entries should show the name and date of publication, headline and byline as possible. Entries must be accompanied with a brief bio of the entrant.
Audio and video entries: Enter audio and video work by providing Sound Cloud or YouTube links of the entry or put it on a flash drive or CD and address it to the Secretary General, Gambia Press Union.
